Three inmates on run after NSW jailbreak

Three men serving time for theft, robbery and assault have escaped from a NSW prison, sparking a widespread search.

Three men who escaped from a rural NSW prison have ditched their prison clothes and remain in hiding, police say.

Justin Brown, 18, Mathew Cummings, 19, and Narjik Newman, 24, were last seen at 3pm (AEDT) on Wednesday at the minimum-security prison near Brewarrina, in the state's north.

By 4pm, the trio were reported missing, sparking a widespread search.

The group's prison uniforms have since been found.

Police say the three inmates were serving sentences ranging from theft and assault to attempted armed robbery.

Anyone who sees them is urged to not approach and instead call police.
