Three-match ban for Super Sharks' Deysel

Sharks flanker Jean Deysel has copped a three-match ban after pleading guilty to stamping on Crusaders loose forward Jordan Taufua.

South African loose forward Jean Deysel has been suspended for three weeks after being red carded for stamping in the Sharks' 30-25 Super Rugby win over the Crusaders on Saturday.

Deysel was sent off in the 16th minute in Christchurch for a stomp to the face of Crusaders flanker Jordan Taufua.

Deysel, who pleaded guilty, was issued with a red card at the time by referee Rohan Hoffman.

The flanker was found to have stamped on Taufua in the head and neck area after the Crusaders loose forward illegally held onto his foot and prevented him from joining the Sharks' defensive line.

Taufua suffered a minor injury to his mouth but was able to complete the match

The offence was categorised as mid-level which carries a five-week suspension, but Deysel's penalty was reduced to three weeks "as a result of compelling mitigating factors", the hearing found.

These included Deysel's post-match apology to Taufua, Deysel's good record over a long career, and his guilty plea.

Deysel will miss the Sharks' two upcoming fixtures against the Blues and Stormers, and a match for his club side in the June Super Rugby break.
