Three men killed in separate NSW drownings

NSW has had three drowning deaths on Boxing Day; one was a 60-year-old who went to the aid of two girls struggling in the sea on the state's NSW North Coast.

Three men have died within hours of each other in separate suspected drownings in NSW on Boxing Day.

On the North Coast, a 60-year-old man is thought to have drowned after attempting to help two girls struggling in the ocean at Wooli Beach on NSW's North Coast around before 1.15pm.

CPR was performed on the man, who was pulled from the water unconscious, but he died at the scene, police say.

The children were pulled to safety by Surf Rescue.

Later, police were called to a picnic ground at Bendeela, in the Kangaroo Valley, after a 27-year-old waded into the river with a friend and ran into difficulties at 3.15pm.

Police divers found his body around 6.15pm, three hours after officers were called to the scene.

Around 10 minutes later, also in the Shoalhaven, emergency services were called to Merry Beach at Kioloa after a 56-year-old was located unconscious in the surf.

He could not be revived, police say.
