Three mountaineers have died on the Mont Blanc massif near the Italian border, French mountain rescue police say.
Rescuers were trying to retrieve the bodies from the area of the Domes de Miage, a ridge rising to over 3600 metres that is popular with mountaineers.
Regional radio France Bleu reported that the mountaineers, whose nationality was not immediately confirmed, may have died after a fall during their ascent of the ridge.
On Sunday, four people died in three separate incidents in the French Alps.
There are "about 10 deaths on average" and 80 to 100 rescue operations yearly on Mont Blanc, the mayor of the local commune of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, Jean-Marc Peillex, said last year.
