A man has been attacked by a tiger at a Queensland zoo.

Emergency services were called to Australia Zoo on Steve Irwin Way, Beerwah, about 2.45pm (AEST) on Tuesday.

The Department of Community Safety says when they arrived they found a man in his 30s with two puncture wounds to his neck.

The man is breathing, conscious and in a stable condition.

RACQ Careflight says a critical care doctor and flight paramedic are currently on scene treating the patient for a wound to his neck.

The man is reportedly a trainer at the zoo, which keeps three Bengal and eight Sumatran tigers.

Australia Zoo offers visitors photos with the tigers at 3:15pm every day for $400 per person.

On the zoo's website it has a list of rules for visitors who partake in the photo sessions.

"Please remember that Big Cats are predatory animals and are quite capable of exercising their natural instincts," rule number 12 says.
