Tiger Troy Chaplin retires from AFL

The 215-game AFL career of Troy Chaplin is over, with the Richmond defender announcing his retirement.

Richmond defender Troy Chaplin has retired, ending a 215-game AFL career.

Chaplin has played eight games this season, with the club looking to the future and leaving the 30-year-old on the sidelines since round 11.

Chaplin, who played 140 games in nine seasons at Port Adelaide, will work as a coach at Punt Rd Oval for the rest of 2016.

"Troy has been an outstanding contributor to the club over the past four seasons," Tigers football manager Dan Richardson said.

"He has been a fine role model.

"We are delighted that he has agreed to remain at the club in a coaching capacity. Troy has a great football brain and there is little doubt he has a bright future as a coach."
