The Wests Tigers could be finally ready to unleash exciting youngster Mitchell Moses on the NRL next week against Penrith following James Tedesco's season-ending injury.
Moses is the latest talented prospect to come off the Tigers' production line and was set to make his debut against the Sydney Roosters last month.
However, a two-game suspension imposed by the NRL following a homophobic slur towards an opponent in the under-20 State of Origin clash against Queensland last month saw that opportunity lost.
But with fullback Tedesco out for the rest of the year with a fractured kneecap and Kurtis Rowe (ankle) and Tim Moltzen (knee) also sidelined, coach Mick Potter said Moses, who usually plays in the halves, may be an option in the custodian role.
"We'll have a look at it, he's a versatile player who can play different positions in the back line," Potter said.
"We'll talk about it during the week."
Blake Austin filled in admirably for Tedesco who was taken off on a stretcher after shattering his kneecap in a collision with Terry Campese as he returned the opening kick-off less than 10 seconds into the game.
Austin had never played at fullback before and Potter was full of praise for the way the former Penrith playmaker came off the bench to help his injury-ravaged side seal a 19-18 win over Canberra on Saturday.
"He played for 79-odd minutes and was pretty tidy," he said.
"Considering we had 10 less sets than them in that second half I thought he was outstanding in some aspects.
"It's not his preferred position but I thought Blake was outstanding, his talk was good and he got in some good positions for us."
