Tigers, Dockers have point to prove in AFL

Richmond will be aiming to bounce back from their 47-point loss to the Bulldogs when they face Fremantle in Perth in the AFL.

Richmond and Fremantle will be aiming to rediscover their scoring mojo when they lock horns in their AFL clash at Optus Stadium.

The Tigers have copped a wave of criticism in the wake of last week's 47-point loss to the Western Bulldogs.

Richmond scored just seven goals in that game for a total of 52 points - their lowest return since round 23, 2016.

Prized recruit Tom Lynch has copped the biggest heat, with the former Sun scoring just one goal in his past three matches.

AFL great Matthew Lloyd went as far as to label Lynch a liability, questioning the spearhead's mobility when the ball's at ground level.

Richmond are still without a host of key players, with Jack Riewoldt, Alex Rance, and Trent Cotchin among the injured.

Daniel Rioli (ribs, thigh) and Nick Vlastuin (ankle) have joined them on the sidelines.

But the Tigers have already proven this season that they can grind out wins with their backs against the wall.

In round four against Port Adelaide, Richmond defied the odds to produce a seven-point win at Adelaide Oval.

Fremantle coach Ross Lyon has warned his players to expect an ambush from Richmond this Sunday, but the Dockers also have a point to prove.

Lyon's players were brave in last week's 17-point loss to Adelaide.

But the Dockers were left to rue a series of missed opportunities up forward, with the team scoring just 5.4 (34) from 50 inside 50s.

Lyon said the poor return in attack had been a big focus this week.

"We were still strong in the contest and defended well," Lyon said.

"But we were disappointed - we'd been able to score all year, but on the weekend we just couldn't get that done.

"It just wasn't connection. Sometimes it's just running patterns.

"Adelaide are a very good defence, and the Tigers are very similar.

"Sometimes if you just ball watch for a little bit they can get to a position where you should be as a forward.

"We think it's not an easy fix, but a really good learning for us."

Fremantle made just one change, axing Cam McCarthy for Brennan Cox.

Richmond recalled David Astbury and Ryan Garthwaite.
