Wests Tigers utility Liam Fulton has announced his immediate retirement from the NRL after a series of concussions this season.
The 29-year-old made the decision after consulting with medical personnel, his family, his teammates, and Tigers management.
The 2005 Tigers premiership winner played 162 games for the club.
Fulton suffered concussion in four of the six games he played this season, most recently in the round 13 win over Newcastle.
The former City representative didn't play again.
In a statement Tigers boss Grant Meyer thanked Fulton for his contribution to the joint venture.
"Liam has made a very brave decision, one that cannot have been easy for him to make," Meyer said.
"Having spoken at length with Liam, his family and management I know this is the right decision for him and his future health."
Meyer indicated Fulton would be given an ongoing support role at the club.
Tigers coach Mick Potter said Fulton would be a loss.
"Liam is a key member of our team and will be sorely missed on the field," Potter said.
"His light-hearted approached to life is refreshing to all of us at Wests Tigers and it's great that he will remain a part of the club."
Fulton played 162 games for the Tigers between 2003 and 2008, and from 2010 to 2014.
He also played 17 matches for Super League's Huddersfield in 2009.
