Cheyenne Woods, the niece of Tiger Woods, kept herself in reach of a spot at the British Open on Friday when she fired a five under par in the European Masters first round.
The 23-year-old Woods is chasing one of three places available this weekend to qualify for next week's golf major at St Andrews.
Her 67 put her in sixth place, four shots behind joint leaders Caroline Masson, who carded a tournament record nine-under, and South African Ashleigh Simon, who only returned from a hip injury two months ago.
"I felt like I played really steady. One bogey, I felt like I hit the ball well so overall it was a good day," said Woods, who celebrated her 23rd birthday on Thursday.
England's Charley Hull, 17, started well with an eagle on her first hole, the 10th, and was part of a group at four-under alongside Australia's world No.7, Karrie Webb.
The veteran seven-time major champion was impressed with her teenage playing partner at Buckinghamshire Golf Club.
"What a fantastic talent," said Webb.
"Quite a big pairing for her today (including English veteran Laura Davies) and she eagled the first hole.
"We joked that out there, she is a member at Woburn and that's where I won my first British Open and it was a year before she was born so that puts things in perspective.
"I think she'll be around for a long time."
