Time for NBA game in Australia: Bogut

Australia's best basketballer Andrew Bogut says the NBA must stop ignoring its loyal Aussie fans and play a game Down Under.

Andrew Bogut says it is about time an NBA game was played in Australia.

The Melbourne-born centre's Golden State Warriors just returned from two pre-season games in China against the Los Angeles Lakers.

In past years NBA teams have played in Africa, Brazil, China, Germany, Spain, France, Greece, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Philippines and Turkey, but Australia has been snubbed.

"The NBA needs to have a game in Australia," Bogut told the Contra-Costa Times newspaper.

He pointed to the huge NBA fanbase in his homeland, with more Australians signing up to watch live games via the NBA's website than any other non-US nation.

"Australia is the biggest international supporter of the NBA," he said.

"We were number one for international league pass subscriptions.

"Number one in international merchandise sales.

"In the summer, if you go to the beach, everyone's wearing NBA tops and NBA hats." While the NBA stalls, other sports are moving in.

"The English Premiere League has been there," Bogut said.

"The NFL has played a preseason game there. NHL has been there.

"The (LA) Dodgers are coming (in 2014). Everyone but the NBA has been to Australia."
