Time put AFL drug saga to bed: Premier

Victoria's Premier Daniel Andrews says it's time to let footy fans move on from the Essendon doping saga.

Footy fans want to draw a line under the Essendon doping saga and move on, Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews says.

The Essendon fan said as the AFL tribunal did not have enough evidence to prosecute Essendon players it was time to put the long-running issue to bed.

"I think everyone would be very pleased, I know I would be, to draw a line under this, to put it behind us and allow the Essendon Footy Club to be focused on footy and to allow footy fans to be focused on our great game," Mr Andrews told reporters on Wednesday.

Mr Andrews said other authorities had a right to appeal and that was a matter for them.

"But I'm sure we'd all be pleased, we'd all be relieved and happy if we can just get back to talking about football," he said.

"I want the Essendon footy club on the back page of the paper, not the front page of the paper - except perhaps in the early part of October."
