Time to restore Socceroos belief: Ange

New coach Ange Postecoglou says he is confident about restoring confidence and belief in the Socceroos ahead of the World Cup.

New Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou says fans can expect a reinvigorated national side when they run out against Costa Rica in his first outing in charge.

The standing and reputation of the Socceroos has taken a hammering in recent times due to back-to-back 6-0 losses to Brazil and then France under former coach Holger Osieck, and a self-confessed "bullish" Postecoglou says he is confident of putting that behind.

Since being handed the reigns of Australia last month, Postecoglou has been very vocal about the need to restore pride in the Socceroos jersey.

And ahead of the team's first match under his control against Costa Rica in Sydney on November 19, the two-time A-League title winner said he aims to do just that.

"When you have been through a tough patch as our national team has, we will be looking to restore some confidence in the team itself and for our supporters as well," he said.

"We want them to know that coming up to the World Cup we will give a good account of ourselves.

Postecoglou said his main focus was to make sure the players felt good when they run out against Costa Rica.

"I'm pretty bullish about making sure we don't talk down our national team," he said.

"I won't be downplaying our chances against Costa Rica.

"It is an important game and it is important the we restore some belief and confidence in order to get us feeling good about ourselves and where we are heading."
