Titans beat Redskins to stay in NFL hunt

Tennessee Titans have overcome the Washington Redskins 25-16 to maintain their push for a place in the NFL's post-season.

Tennessee Titans have kept their play-off hopes alive by rallying to beat the Washington Redskins 25-16.

Replacement quarterback Blaine Gabbert threw a two-yard touchdown pass with 4:30min left as the Titans rallied to outscore the Redskins 16-3 in the final quarter.

Gabbert came off the bench for the third time this season after Marcus Mariota left the game late in the first half after being sacked by Jonathan Allen.

Gabbert hit Taywan Taylor for 35 yards to jump-start the winning drive.

Derrick Henry ran four times for 33 yards, his last an 18-yarder to the two-yard line.

Gabbert then hit to MyCole Pruitt at the back of the end zone for the score.

The Titans (9-6) now must beat Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts and have either Baltimore Ravens or Pittsburgh Steelers lose once to earn the AFC's second wild-card spot for a second consecutive play-off berth.

Safety Kevin Byard intercepted Josh Johnson's pass on third-and-3 with 1:17 to play before Washington got the ball back.

However, Malcolm Butler picked off a pass as time expired and ran 56 yards for an emphatic TD to seal the result.

The Redskins (7-8) have lost five of six.
