Titans coach says Mead the man for Blues

Gold Coast coach John Cartwright says David Mead would not let anyone down if he were selected for the Blues for the second State of Origin match.

NSW coach Laurie Daley could do a lot worse than Gold Coast's David Mead as a replacement for the injured Morris twins in the opinion of Titans coach John Cartwright.

Josh and Brett Morris are unavailable for the Blues for the second State of Origin match in Sydney later this month due to knee and shoulder injuries respectively and the race is on to secure the favour of NSW selectors before the squad is named next week.

St George Illawarra star Josh Dugan, Parramatta recruit Will Hopoate and Newcastle centre Joey Leilua are among those who've been mentioned in a variety of replacement scenarios.

And Mead, who has played fullback, centre and wing this season for the Titans, should be in that group according to his club coach.

The 25-year-old, who has played six Tests for Papua New Guinea, scored two tries on his debut for NSW Country earlier this season.

Cartwright is confident if Mead was given the nod, regardless of his role he wouldn't let the Blues down.

"He wouldn't be out of place in Origin that's for sure," said Cartwright, who made eight appearances for NSW in his playing career.

"He's done everything asked of him at club level and got a crack at rep footy and did a good job there as well.

"He definitely wouldn't let them down if he's on their radar."
