Bring Hayne and the rest will follow. This seems to be the thought process at the Gold Coast, where Jarryd Hayne will remain until at least the end of the 2018 NRL season.
Hayne ended speculation about his footballing future on Thursday, invoking the second year of his $1.2 million contract with the Titans.
Gold Coast chief executive Graham Annesley hopes the former NFL player will be a carrot in retaining current Titans hooker Nathan Peats.
"The great thing about having a player like Jarryd is that he actually attracts other players to our roster," Annesley said.
"When we're in the player market, whether this is renegotiation with current players or negotiating with potential players, having a player like Jarryd on board makes it a more attractive proposition."
Since joining the Titans Peats has been one of the Gold Coast's best players, earning a call-up to the NSW State of Origin side off the back of his NRL form.
Annesley says the Gold Coast are eager to keep Peats and are slowly negotiating with his management
"Talks are ongoing, Nathan's been involved in Origin and things tend to slow down during that time," Annesley said.
"It's good news for the Titans, we had two players involved in Origin who were some of the best players on the field ... Peats had a tremendous game."
