Gold Coast will turn to an old friend next year after signing former player Nathan Friend on a one-year deal.

The 34-year-old hooker will head back to the Titans after four years across the Tasman with the Warriors.

The capture of New Zealand international Issac Luke by the Warriors had always signalled Friend would be seeking a new club for the 2016 NRL season.

A foundation member of the Titans, Friend says helping Gold Coast out of their recent woes was an exciting challenge.

"I have great memories from my five seasons with the Titans, including twice getting to the finals, and I'd love to be a part of getting there again," Friend told the Titans' website.

"Hopefully my experience and determination can be of value and I can help the club move in the right direction."

The Toowoomba product has played 215 games for Brisbane, the Titans and the Warriors since his debut for the Broncos in 2002.

Titans coach Neil Henry says Friend's experience will be useful as he continues to rejuvenate his playing squad.

"Nathan's experience and leadership will be invaluable, especially for our young hookers Kierran Moseley and Karl Lawton," Henry said.

"He is one of the most professional and dedicated players in the NRL and we feel still has a lot to offer the club."
