Titans skipper backs Taylor for Origin

Gold Coast captain Nate Myles insists Dave Taylor's ongoing court dramas will mean nothing if the giant forward earns a State of Origin call-up.

Queensland coach Mal Meninga isn't sure but Maroons teammate Nate Myles says Dave Taylor's off-field concerns shouldn't rule him out of State of Origin selection.

Meninga said earlier in the week an ongoing court case against Taylor and several other Gold Coast players had him worried about the player's focus before the Origin opener on May 27.

Taylor, along with NRL teammates Greg Bird, Kalifa Faifai Loa, Jamie Dowling and Beau Falloon, have all been charged with supplying or possessing cocaine following a Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission investigation.

None of the players were at Southport Magistrates Court on Friday as the matter was adjourned until July 6, two days before the final Origin clash in Brisbane.

Meninga says the matter is "worrying" and something that Taylor will need to deal with if he is chosen in the Maroons lineup.

Taylor is an incumbent after coming off the bench in Queensland's win in last year's series finale and has overcome his early season issues to be a regular performer for the Titans as they've won four of their past five matches.

Titans skipper Myles says he would have no concerns if Taylor was picked in Queensland's team.

"Dave's been there and done it before," he said.

"I've got no doubt that Dave could get in the arena and focus and put his head down. That's all he needs to do mate.

"It's pretty well known the talent he's got, he's just got to make sure he knows what he's got and he can handle it the best way."
