Gold Coast playmaker Tyrone Roberts admits the brickbats the club copped after limping to their worst start in their NRL history forced them to take accountability.
The future of coach Garth Brennan was brought into question during the week when the Titans board announced that Mal Meninga would lead a review of the club's football department.
Senior players such as Ash Taylor - who Andrew Johns called to be dropped - have also been heavily criticised after they under-performed in the opening 10 rounds with just two wins.
But they responded to the pressure against Manly on Friday night, coming from behind to run out 36-18 winners.
And Roberts said the playing group drew a line in the sand after slumping to their worst start since their inception in 2007.
"Garth, he takes the pressure, he doesn't tell us about it," Roberts said.
"He doesn't want to put the pressure on us. His job as a coach is to take that pressure off us and for us to worry about the game and not what's happening off the field.
"We've made some changes as players and took some ownership of the team and a bit of accountability and he's bought into it as well. He's a good coach and tonight he got what he deserved."
Roberts starred for the Titans, setting up two tries and scoring another two, while halves partner Taylor had his best game of the year, marked by a 25m Harbour Bridge pass to set up Dale Copley.
For the Titans, the most pleasing aspect was the way they refused to turn belly up after going down 12-0 early, scoring five unanswered tries to record their third win of the year.
"The thing is we've been losing the momentum when it does come," Roberts said.
"We tend to just ease off. It's something we've been working on, playing for the whole 80.
"When that arm wrestle comes we stopped competing and tonight we turned it around."
