Titans to focus solely on NRL coach search

Calls for a coaching coordinator on the Gold Coast will be ignored with the Titans' head coaching job the only role advertised.

Gold Coast boss Graham Annesley says a coaching coordinator or head of football will not be part of the club's immediate hiring plans.

While he admitted it could happen at some stage, the Titans chief executive said a head coach would be the first person hired to replace the sacked Neil Henry.

Current and former Australian coaches Mal Meninga and Tim Sheens are among those being touted for advisory roles to mentor a young Titans coach.

Annesley did not rule out eventually increasing personnel in the football department, but said the first move was clear.

"We're looking for a head coach and once we have that, certainly it will be part of the discussions (to add to the coaching staff)," he said on Monday.

"Those sorts of decisions can come over time."

The club has come under fire for the handling of Henry's sacking and how his apparent rift with star fullback Jarryd Hayne was played out in public.

Former Gold Coast players Scott Sattler and Mat Rogers believe the club's dramas would have been better managed and even avoided if the head coach had more support.

The Titans' new coach won't get that support though, at least not from the outset.

But Annesley said no interviews had been conducted and the committee was yet to create a shortlist, however Craig Fitzgibbon, Jason Taylor, Geoff Toovey and Ipswich co-coaches Ben and Shane Walker are all being floated to fill the vacancy.

"We're still setting up the process but it should rev up over the next couple of weeks," he said.

The NRL-owned club is now also been shopped to private buyers, but Annesley said that won't have an impact on the search for a coach.

"I've spoken to the NRL about that and agreed it's business as usual and that we should get on with finding a coach," he said.

"We want that done before players return for pre-season (in November)."
