A man is to face court after a two-year-old girl was found locked in a car at a Sydney shopping centre.

Police were called to the centre in Hurstville just after 3pm on Saturday and broke a window to gain entry to the car after seeing the girl was not moving.

She was treated by ambulance paramedics before being taken to St George Hospital, reportedly suffering from minor dehydration.

A 36-year-old man has been interviewed by police who intend to serve him with a court attendance notice for leaving a child unsupervised in a motor vehicle.

The child was released from hospital into the care of her mother.
