Bernard Tomic eased into the third round of the Citi Open in Washington on Tuesday with a straight sets win over David Goffin, but Lleyton Hewitt won't be joining him.
Tomic, the 14th-seed, saw off his Belgian opponent 6-1 6-3 at William HG FitzGerald Tennis Centre.
However, Hewitt went down in straight sets to American Ryan Harrison 6-3 7-5.
In the women's event, top-seeded wild card Angelique Kerber had few problems in knocking out qualifier Irina Falconi 6-2 6-3.
Britain's Heather Watson beat America's Alexandra Mueller 6-7 6-4 6-3 to set up a fourth round clash against fourth seed Alize Cornet, 6-1 6-3 conqueror of Yanina Wickmayer.
Elsewhere, fifth seed Sorana Cirstea advanced after Lesia Tsurenko retired while trailing 7-5, 1-1.
