Australia's Jarmila Gajdosova has been eliminated from the Thailand Open in a straight sets defeat to adopted compatriot Ajla Tomljanovic as seeded players tumbled out of the tournament.
The sixth-seeded Gajdosova came into Thursday's clash in terrific form, having breezed through her first-round encounter on the back of an impressive display for Australia in last weekend's Fed Cup loss to Germany - where she downed Germany No.1 Angelique Kerber.
But was Tomljanovic, the Croatian-born 21-year-old who hopes to gain Australian citizenship in the coming months, who got the better of their second-round match-up 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 in little more than an hour to advance to the quarter-finals.
The pair teamed up as a doubles partnership, but it was bad news once more for Gajdosova, as they were turfed by Chinese duo Chien Liang and Kai-Lin Zhang in straight sets.
Tomljanovic will next face Evgeniya Rodina of Russia, who upset fourth-seeded Kurumi Nara of Japan 6-2 6-4 on another horror day for the big guns, one day after top-seeded Peng Shuai of China was ousted.
Their defeats mean Monica Puig is the only seeded player remaining in the draw.
Former world No.5 Daniela Hantuchova safely advanced, beating China's Zheng Saisai of China 7-6 (7-5) 6-2.
