Ajla Tomljanovic has moved through to the semi-finals of the Korea Open after beating Mandy Minella in a see-sawing match in Seoul.

The Australian looked well in control, up a set and 3-1 but lost seven of the next eight games to find herself staring down the barrel of a quarter-final exit.

But the world No.53 steadied on serve and lifted on return to claim the next four games for a 4-2 lead.

That still wasn't enough however as the Luxembourger broke back and the match eventually was all level at 5-5.

Tomljanovic then won the next two games to register the 6-2 4-6 7-5 win.

She'll be eyeing off a career-high ranking in the low 40s if she can progress to the final.

In other matches Ekaterina Alexandrova broke Jelena Ostapenko's serve five times to defeat the defending champion and No. 1-seeded player 6-3 6-2 in their rain-delayed match.

Ostapenko, the 2017 French Open champion, had reached the quarter-finals or better at six tournaments this year, including the Wimbledon semi-finals. Alexandrova came into the match with a 1-7 career record in round-of-16 matches at WTA-level events.

The postponement from Thursday meant Alexandrova had to play her quarter-final match later on Friday against sixth-seeded Hsieh Su-wei.

Hsieh is on a seven-match winning streak after capturing last week's Japan Women's Open at Hiroshima.

Second-seeded Kiki Bertens also won through to the semi finals, downing Evgeniya Rodina 6-3 3-6 6-0.
