Tomljanovic into second round in Mallorca

Ajla Tomljanovic is through to the second round of the Mallorca Open after a first-up straight-sets win, joining Samantha Stosur in the round of 16.

Qualifier Ajla Tomljanovic has joined compatriot and former world No.4 Samantha Stosur in the second round of the Mallorca Open in Spain.

The 25-year-old beat Poland's Magda Linette 6-3 6-4 on Tuesday to set up a last-16 clash with Swede Rebecca Peterson.

Peterson eliminated American sixth seed Danielle Rose Collins 6-3 6-3.

Top seed and world No.6 Caroline Garcia also advanced with a three-set victory over Su-Wei Hsieh.

Stosur faces Spain's Lara Arruabarrena in the round of 16 on Wednesday.
