Tomljanovic reaches last eight in Mallorca

Qualifier Ajla Tomljanovic is into the quarter-finals of the Mallorcan Open, where she will join fellow Australian Samantha Stosur.

Australian qualifier Ajla Tomljanovic has joined compatriot Samantha Stosur in the quarter-finals of the Mallorcan Open after she defeated Swede Rebecca Peterson 6-3 6-3.

Tomljanovic will next play Latvian defending champion Anastasija Sevastova, who saw off another qualifier in Germany's Antonia Lottner, coming back from a set and a break down.

The No.3 seed, who struck 15 winners on the way to her win, said: "I just stayed in there. I had some chances to break her in the first set, but things just didn't go my way, and she was serving very well.

"But I knew it was only one break in the second set, so I just stayed positive and somehow I got my chance."

Former US Open winner Stosur reached the last eight on Wednesday after beating Lara Arruabarrena in straight sets.

But the world No.98 now knows her next opponent is American qualifier Alison Riske.

Riske, who beat Angelique Kerber in the first round, has continued her stunning form with an epic two hours, 45-minute win over Slovenian Polona Hercog, 3-6 7-5 6-3.
