Tomljanovic tumbles out of Wimbledon

Madison Keys has paid tribute to her new Australian coach after taking out Ajla Tomljanovic in the first round at Wimbledon.

Ajla Tomljanovic's Wimbledon return has been a fleeting one, with the Australian losing her opener in straight sets to 10th seed Madison Keys.

Playing her first match at The All England Club since 2015, Tomljanovic crashed to a 6-4 6-2 first-round defeat on Monday.

In her first outing under new Australian coach David Taylor, Tomljanovic's one-time mentor, Keys gained decisive breaks in the fifth game of both sets in advancing in just 62 minutes.

Tomljanovic has rebuilt her ranking to 65th in the world after a shoulder reconstruction forced her off tour for almost a year.

But Keys ruthlessly exposed the gulf in class with a tidy display highlighted by 19 winners, four aces and only seven unforced errors in 18 games.

Runner-up at last year's US Open and a semi-final at Roland Garros last month, Keys believes London's grass may offer her the best chance yet to break her grand slam duck.

"I love it here. I love playing on grass," she said.

"I didn't play on grass until I was 16 or 17 so I started much later than some of the other girls I'm playing against, but it always suits my game."

Keys paid tribute to Taylor

"He's been great really helping me find my strengths and also finding my weakness on grass.

"I love staying low on the grass. We've been working on that.

"He's been really awesome."
