Australian actress Toni Collette has been announced as a jury member at this year's Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

Other jury members announced on Tuesday include Jeff Goldblum, Lake Bell and the directors of Twilight and The Hunger Games, Catherine Hardwicke and Gary Ross.

They will join Whoopi Goldberg, Heather Graham, Anton Yelchin and Sting's actress daughter Mickey Sumner among the 33 people who will oversee the competition in seven categories, from World Competition and World Narrative to World Documentary.

In total, the juries hand out $US150,000 ($A162,346.45) (93,750) in prize money.

The film festival begins on April 16 and runs until April 27.

Collette has appeared in many big Hollywood films since her breakthrough role in Muriel's Wedding. She has also starred in a number of TV series including the critically acclaimed United States of Tara, which earned her a Golden Globe award.

The actress is currently appearing in the Broadway play The Realistic Joneses, a play about two couples with a disconcerting amount in common, alongside Michael C Hall.
