Playmaker Matt Toomua will return to the Brumbies' starting line-up for their Super Rugby qualifying final against the Stormers in Cape Town.

Toomua, who was originally named on the bench for the sudden-death clash kicking off at 1am AEST on Sunday, will play at inside centre after proving his fitness following two separate ankle injuries.

"We got him out here for the captain's run today and he's looking really good," said coach Stephen Larkham.

"He trained really well on Wednesday, did both sessions, and pulled up well on Thursday ... so we're going to start him."

The Wallaby hasn't started a match since first injuring his ankle in the Brumbies' loss to the Blues on April 10.

He played 28 minutes off the bench in last weekend's defeat to the Crusaders for just his second appearance in eight games.

The late change means Robbie Coleman will move to the bench, while Nigel Ah Wong replaces James Dargaville as a reserve in the 23-man squad.
