Matt Toomua was yellow-carded just 13 minutes into his debut for Leicester as the English club were belted 42-13 by Glasgow in their opening European Champions Cup pool match.

The Wallabies utility, playing at inside centre on Friday night in his first match for the Tigers since moving from the Brumbies, lifted Glasgow fly-half Finn Russell in a tackle and put him in a dangerous position past the horizontal.

The Scotstoun Stadium crowd in Glasgow shouted for a red card but after the referee took several looks at the replay on the big screen, Toomua was sent to the sidelines for 10 minutes.

It was far from an auspicious debut for Toomua as two-time winners Leicester conceded the most points in a European Cup game in the club's history, but the Warriors were outstanding.

Three tries in eight first-half minutes set them on their way to a thumping bonus-point win.

Leonardo Sarto, Fraser Brown and Henry Pyrgos all crossed before halftime as Gregor Townsend's side bounced back from Adam Thompstone's early try.

Leicester, who received two of the game's three yellow cards, were overwhelmed by their hosts' tempo and relentless pressure.

Tigers failed to get on the scoreboard in the second half and Mark Bennett and Sarto each broke away in the final 11 minutes to round off a memorable night for the Scots.
