Brazilians have cried, cursed their president and covered their faces in shame after their beloved football team's humiliating 7-1 thrashing by Germany in the World Cup semi-finals.
So in honour of Brazil's loss, here are our top 5 worst World Cup defeats of all time.
Germany 7 vs Brazil 1 (2014)
The World Cup semi-final match between Brazil and Germany is Brazil's worst ever defeat on home soil. The defeat is on par with the previous record set in the 6-0 drubbing by Uruguay in the Copa America in 1920.
Hungary 9 vs South Korea 0 (1954)
Or as some would say: USSR vs US. The Korean War had ended a year prior, which saw US-backed South Korea in a fierce war with Soviet-backed North Korea. Meanwhile, Hungary was still run by Soviet forces.
Hungary eventually defeated South Korea 9-0.
Hungary 10 vs El Salvador 1 (1982)
El Salvador was going through a civil war at the time, and Hungary was one of the best teams in Europe. Hence the 10-1 defeat.
Portugal 7 vs North Korea 0 (2010)
Portugal turned on the style to thump Korea DPR 7-0 in an amazing Group G game at a rain-soaked Cape Town Stadium. Read more about the match here.
Australia vs American Samoa (31-0) 2001
Granted, this wasn't a World Cup match but a qualifying match. Still, the results 31-0 speak for themselves. The margin is reportedly the largest ever in an international football match.
