Top-ranked McIlroy wins PGA Championship

Rory McIlroy wins the 96th PGA Championship, shooting a 16-under 268 over 72 holes.

Top-ranked Rory McIlroy won his fourth major title Sunday by capturing the PGA Championship in a dramatic shotmakers' showdown over the back nine at rain-softened Valhalla.

McIlroy, who won the British Open three weeks ago, fired a three-under par 68 in the final round to finish 72 holes on 16-under par 268 and edge five-time major champion Phil Mickelson by one shot.

The 25-year-old from Northern Ireland took the Wanamaker Trophy and a $US1.34 million ($A1.45 million) top prize.
