Tornado smashes through outskirts of Venice

A tornado has hit the outskirts of Venice, destroying homes and reportedly injuring dozens.

A strong tornado has hit the Italian city of Venice.

Video footage of the tornado shows fierce winds tearing through streets, damaging properties and trees.

More than a dozen people were injured, The Weather Channel reports.

Italian newspaper Il Gazzettino reported that one person died.
