Gold Coast man Gable Tostee is planning to fight a charge of murdering a New Zealand woman who allegedly plunged from the balcony of his Surfers Paradise apartment.
Tostee was arrested at his parents' house in Carrara on Friday, a week after Warriena Tagpuno Wright, 26, fell to her death.
He was charged with murder and taken to the Gold Coast's main watch house at Southport.
Tostee won't be able to seek bail when he appears in Southport Magistrates Court on Saturday morning, but defence lawyer Michael Purcell says his 28-year-old client plans to do so in coming weeks.
"He has exercised his right to silence and he maintains his innocence and he will be defending the charge," Mr Purcell told reporters.
"The process is he will appear in the magistrates court.
"He can't make an application for bail there, but I expect he'll be making an application for bail in the Supreme Court in the weeks to come."
His arrest comes a day after Ms Wright's younger sister Marreza, 23, made a tearful plea for information.
"It's hard for me facing the loss of my sister without knowing what happened in the last hours of her life," she said.
Ms Wright was found at the base of the Avalon Apartments building in the early hours of Friday, August 8, after reportedly meeting Tostee through the dating app Tinder.
Tostee's neighbours reported hearing voices and noises before Ms Wright, from Lower Hutt, allegedly plunged from the 13th floor of the high-rise about 2.20am.
Detectives first questioned Tostee last week, but they said he "exercised his right to silence".
They have used a cherry picker to examine the balcony of Tostee's unit, which reportedly had secret cameras installed throughout the property to record his encounters with women.
