Tourist dies in Sydney cliff fall

Police are trying to formally identify a tourist who died after falling 90 metres down a cliff face on Sydney's northern beaches.

A tourist, believed to be from Britain, has died after falling 90 metres onto a rock platform on Sydney's Northern Beaches during an early morning outing with friends.

Police are still trying to contact the family of the 25-year-old man who climbed a fence at North Head and walked to the edge of the cliff before slipping.

His body was winched from the bottom of the cliff face around midday, about five hours after he fell from the escarpment on Scenic Drive.

He hit a rock platform 90m below the cliff.

Police say they have not formally confirmed his identity, but are taking steps to notify family and friends and family.

Four people who were also there when he fell have spoken with investigators.
