Queensland Deputy Premier Jackie Trad has claimed a tight victory in her seat of South Brisbane after fighting off a fierce challenge from the Greens.

Greens candidate Amy MacMahon is set to finish with more primary votes than Ms Trad thanks to a 14 per cent swing but ultimately Liberal National Party preferences will save the deputy premier.

"We do know here in South Brisbane that Labor will end up with about 53 per cent of the two-candidate vote," Ms Trad told cheering supporters on Saturday night.

She had gone into Saturday's election with a 13.8 per cent margin, but that was slashed by Ms MacMahon, who said her party had harnessed a groundswell of opposition to the Adani megamine.

"It's a bloody amazing swing to the Greens," Ms MacMahon told ABC.

"Such a testament to the big team of volunteers we had on the ground doorknocking for the past 12 months."

But Ms Trad took aim at the Greens' big team of volunteers, accusing the left-wing party of flying in hundreds of supporters from southern states to target her seat at great cost.

"They put forward a very, very aggressive campaign in this seat," she said to shouts of "shame" from her supporters.

"They threw everything at us.

"They engaged in the most extensive PR campaign around.

"We have also seen in the last 12 months a lot of fly-in, fly-out, bus-in, bus-out members of the Greens political party come to South Brisbane to campaign against Labor and particularly campaign against me."

The Greens, though, do look likely of picking up the new Brisbane inner-west seat of Maiwar with Michael Berkman poised to unseat LNP frontbencher Scott Emerson.

Ms MacMahon said the Adani issue had turned many Queenslanders off the major parties.

"People are looking at Queensland with shame," Ms MacMahon said. "I think the big swings that we have seen to the Greens across Queensland in this election should be a very clear message to the Labor Party that this is not on."
