Aussies travelling to France and Belgium have been warned of a heightened risk of terrorist attacks in the latest travel advice from the government.

Australians travelling to France and Belgium are being urged to exercise a high degree of caution a week on from the deadly attacks in Paris.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade late on Friday increased it's advice level for both countries given the heightened risk of terrorism in a number of European countries.

Australians should remain vigilant, follow instructions of local authorities and follow the media for the latest information on security, the updated advice on Smartraveller says.
