Treasury official nominated for IMF board

Senior Treasury official Nigel Ray has been nominated for a two-year stint on the board of the International Monetary Fund, to begin later this year.

A senior Treasury official has been nominated to sit on the board of the International Monetary Fund.

Deputy secretary of the Treasury's macroeconomic group Nigel Ray is Treasurer Scott Morrison's pick for the two-year executive director appointment, to commence later this year.

The IMF executive board is made up of 24 directors, who each represent a group of countries.

Mr Ray will represent 16 countries, including Australia, Korea, Mongolia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

Mr Morrison said in a statement on Tuesday that Mr Ray was "eminently qualified for this role, having deep expertise in public policy and economic analysis".

Christine Barron has held the role for the past two years.
