Treloar seeks trade to Collingwood

They might be Giants but the offer of a future with a club that is building towards success wasn't enough to make Adam Treloar stay.

Collingwood will go all out to secure midfield young gun Adam Treloar, who told Greater Western Sydney on Tuesday that he wanted to be traded to the Magpies.

The out-of-contract Treloar, 22, had attracted the interest of several Victorian clubs including Richmond, Carlton and North Melbourne.

But after turning down a lucrative offer from the Giants, he told the club he wanted to join Collingwood.

It will now be up to the Magpies to come up with a combination of high draft picks and players which would be suitable to the Giants.

"Naturally, we're thrilled that Adam has decided Collingwood is where he would like the rest of his career to unfold," said Magpies list manager Derek Hine.

"He would fit into any team, but at 22 years of age he is on the cusp of his best years, which is where we see the majority of our list is at.

"In that regard he is a wonderful fit.

"We will now work with Greater Western Sydney and Adams' agent at Vivid Sport Management, Peter Blucher, to come to an arrangement."

Giants general manager of football Graeme Allan said money played a large part in Treloar rejecting their offer.

"The majority of our players have re-signed to keep this playing group together as they understand we are building something special and they want to be a part of it," Allan said via a statement.

"We've had an attractive offer in front of Adam's management all year but ultimately we have been unable to meet his financial requirements.

"We have no plans to deviate from the list management strategy that has proved so successful for the club to date."

GWS successfully re-signed a host of their other young stars in 2015 including Jeremy Cameron, Dylan Shiel, Stephen Coniglio and Will Hoskin-Elliott.

But the longer it went without Treloar agreeing to a new deal, the more likely it became he would seek a trade.

Treloar played 79 matches in four years at the Giants.
