Tremain recalled as Vics hunt Shield final

Paceman Chris Tremain has replaced an injured James Pattinson in Victoria's squad to face South Australia in their Sheffield Shield clash.

Victoria have brought paceman Chris Tremain into the line-up for their Sheffield Shield clash against South Australia.

He replaces injured quick James Pattinson who suffered a hamstring strain in the Bushrangers' outright win against Queensland in Alice Springs last week.

Pattinson was due to miss the trip to South Australia in any case as part of a strict workload management plan as he returns from a long-term back injury.

The Bushrangers, currently in second place on the Shield table, take on the Redbacks at Gliderol Stadium in Glenelg in the match that gets underway on Thursday.

With two rounds to go in the season, the Victorians are 1.72 points behind leaders Western Australia and 2.48 points ahead of New South Wales in third.

An outright win against SA would cement their hold on a berth in the final and give them a shot at overtaking WA in the race to host it.

Cricket Australia recently announced that in that scenario the Bushrangers would play the final at Junction Oval, with the MCG unavailable due to the ICC World Cup.

The Redbacks are out of contention in last place on the ladder.

Victoria: Matthew Wade (C), Fawad Ahmed, Scott Boland, Dan Christian, Peter Handscomb, Jon Holland, David Hussey, Rob Quiney, Chris Rogers, Peter Siddle, Marcus Stoinis, Chris Tremain, Cameron White.
