Jessica Trengove has set herself the ambitious target of running two great marathons in London in the space of little more than three months.

Trengove had been weighing up the option of skipping the world championships in August and shifting all of her focus to next year's Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

But a stunning 10th-placed finish in a personal best time of two hours, 27 minutes and one second at the London marathon in late April whetted the appetite for the 29-year-old to return to the English capital for the world titles in mid-August.

"I had envisaged that I might shoot for my next marathon later in the year and then build for the Commonwealth Games, but after crossing the line in the London marathon I just had this real desire to run there again," Trengove said on Friday.

"I just love the city and love every opportunity to run for Australia.

"Fortunately I seem to have pulled up well and am really excited to have that opportunity to wear the green and gold again later this year."

Trengove's best major championships result was 11th at the 2013 world titles in steamy conditions in Moscow.

"I learnt a lot from that experience running in the heat and London could well be another hot marathon in August," she said.

"I will be doing everything I can to prepare my body and mind as well as possible."

The six-strong Australian marathon squad for the world titles named on Friday also includes Milly Clark, Sinead Diver, Jeff Hunt and major championships debutants Brad Milosevic and Josh Harris.

Evergreen Lisa Weightman - who like Trengove set a PB at the London marathon in April - asked not to be considered for selection.

Reigning Commonwealth champion Michael Shelley and Liam Adams, who was the first Australian man home in the Rio Olympics marathon, have also chosen to target next year's Commonwealth Games.
