Tributes have flowed for internationally acclaimed Australian author Colleen McCullough, who has died aged 77.
Ms McCullough died on Thursday in hospital on Norfolk Island, where she had lived for almost 40 years.
Best known for her novel The Thorn Birds, which sold more than 30 million copies, Ms McCullough has been remembered for her literary achievements and those in the medical field.
Before becoming a best-selling author, she established the neurophysiology department at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and spent a decade in the US as a Yale medical school researcher.
