The grief-stricken family of a young boy swept from a treacherous beach on the NSW Central Coast say they "never gave up" in their search for him after human remains washed up on the shore.

Five-year-old Chayce Kofe was playing with relatives at Pearl Beach, south of Gosford, when a freak wave pulled him into the ocean nearly two weeks ago.

The rough waters hampered two police officers, who grabbed boards and tried to get out beyond the heavy shore break to reach the young boy, without success.

A huge search party scoured the picturesque coastline for days.

On Monday afternoon, 11 days after Chayce was swept into the water, a man walking his dog found what he believed to be human remains on Pearl Beach.

Police have yet to make formal identification but say they are focusing on Chayce.

The news, though inevitable, still came as a heartbreaking blow to Chayce's family, based in Macquarie Fields.

"I knew you would come back to us chayce boy I never gave up," (sic) aunt Lisa Kelly posted on social media.

Tissy Kelly wrote: "It's all too real now. Forever, adored, loved, cherished n missed.

"Lifes never gonna be the same without u chayce kelly."

It's understood Chayce was staying with extended family on the Central Coast when he drowned.

His father, Daniel Kelly, and mother travelled to the beach in the vain hope of finding their son in the wake of the tragedy.
