Tributes for couple dead in cabin tragedy

A Sydney design manager and her Canadian boyfriend have been identified as the pair that died when their cabin filled with gas from a makeshift heater.

Friends and family have paid tribute to a creative couple who died from carbon monoxide poisoning while on a weekend away in Sydney's northwest.

Sydneysider Helena Curic, 31, and her partner Derek Kehler, 32, were overcome by fumes from a makeshift wood-fire heater after shutting the door to a repurposed shipping container in Kurrajong on the long weekend.

It is believed Ms Curic's sister went to rouse the couple on Monday morning and found them unresponsive.

Ms Curic, a marketing and design manager for a Sydney company, and Mr Kehler, a Canadian musician, couldn't be revived.

Tributes for the couple have flowed on social media, with Mr Kehler's mother posting a photo of her son, the morning he was found dead.

"Always in my heart," Jaana Hogan posted on Facebook in reply to the photograph.

Friend Tanner Fox remembered Mr Kehler as a "heck of a role model".

"I always looked up to you and was always excited to see you," he wrote.

"I love you man, and I'm gonna miss you so much!"
