Triggs absolutely doing her role: Wilson

Freedom commissioner Tim Wilson has defended the Human Rights Commission president Gillian Triggs from the Abbott government, which appointed him.

An Abbott government appointee to the Human Rights Commission has defended his boss from scathing ministerial criticism that she's ill-informed and debasing the organisation.

Tim Wilson says concerns commission president Gillian Triggs raised about the executive over-reach of flagged laws to strip citizenship from suspected terrorists are "absolutely part of her role".

Because the role of the independent commission was to raise substantial issues of public policy it inevitably would get criticised along the way, he told ABC radio on Wednesday.
