Trio botch Vic armed robbery

Three men have attempted to rob a hotel in Melbourne's north, but drove off after failing to get inside.

Three men, a gun and a getaway car should have done the trick, but a group of armed robbers left a hotel in Melbourne's north empty-handed after botching the job.

The three men, all wearing dark clothing and hooded tops, smashed through a side door of the hotel in Roxburgh Park about 11.25pm on Sunday.

One of the three was carrying a firearm but all were stymied when they couldn't budge a second door into the hotel, police say.

They were last seen driving away in an old model silver sedan.

Officers are reviewing CCTV footage and are asking any witnesses who may have been in the hotel's car park at the time to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
