A man has managed to escape after being allegedly detained and beaten during a kidnapping in Sydney.

Last Friday, a woman told police she received a text message from a person claiming to have kidnapped her 24-year-old son and demanding money for his release.

The text included a photo of her son's battered face.

That night the woman's son managed to escape and was driven by a friend to Newtown Police Station.

He confirmed he had been detained against his will and suffered a fractured skull and broken eye socket.

Last Sunday Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives arrested a 21-year-old man and charged him over the alleged kidnapping.

He was refused bail to appear in court in August.

His alleged accomplices, a 30-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, were arrested on Thursday.

Police searched the car they were in and found a loaded revolver and suspected drugs.

The pair were charged with detaining for advantage while the man was also charged with firearm offences.

Both are set to appear in Fairfield Local Court on Friday.
