Truck fire causes chaos on Melb bridge

A truck fire on Melbourne's West Gate Bridge has caused chaos during peak hour.

All lanes on one of Melbourne's busiest bridges have reopened following a truck fire that brought traffic to a standstill.

Major peak-hour delays are expected throughout Friday morning.

Three lanes into the city on the West Gate Bridge were closed as a result of the blaze. All lanes are now open.

Delays were back to the Western Ring Road for traffic headed into the city and as far back as the Bolte Bridge for outbound vehicles.

It is believed the fire started about 7.30am.

Metropolitan Fire Brigade spokesman Steve Moore said crews were able to quickly contain the burning B-double.

Heavy haulage has since removed the truck.
