Minjee Lee is the best of the Australians at the midway point of the rain-affected LPGA event in Alabama, tied for 29th but eight shots behind leader Yani Tseng.
Tseng closed with an eagle and a birdie for a second-round eight-under 64 on Friday to hold a one-stroke advantage at 10-under overall.
American Austin Ernst was second a shot back after a 65 and Lexi Thompson was third at eight-under.
Tseng hit a 6-iron to four feet to set up the eagle on the par-5 eighth hole just before play was delayed for about 90 minutes because of lightning and rain, then took the outright lead on the par-4 ninth with her sixth birdie of the day.
Thirty-nine players were unable to finish the round because of more rain and darkness.
Of the other Australians, Emma de Groot and Katherine Kirk - both at two-over - sit on the cusp of the projected cut line.
Compatriot Stacey Keating, at four-over, will have four more holes to climb into the top half and play the weekend, but Sarah Kemp (80) finished well back at 11-over and won't be around.
Ranked No.1 in the world for 109 weeks, the 26-year-old Taiwanese player has slipped to 75th and is winless in 85 events since the 2012 Kia Classic.
The 15-time tour winner tied for second in March in the LPGA Thailand for her only top-10 finish of the year.
