Turkey PM reshuffles cabinet amid graft scandal

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced a major cabinet reshuffle, replacing almost half his key ministers after three of them resigned under a huge graft scandal that is seen also threatening the premier's hold on power.

Erdogan named 10 new cabinet members, replacing the ministers for the interior, economy, environment, EU affairs, justice, transport, family, sports and industry, and the deputy prime minister, after a closed-door meeting with President Abdullah Gul.

Prime Minister Erdogan removed EU Affairs Minister Egemen Bagis from his post in a major cabinet reshuffle late Wednesday as a huge anti-graft scandal ensnaring the premier's closest allies heated up.

Outgoing minister Egemen Bagis, who was accused of being involved in the corruption scandal but has never been detained or formally charged, was excluded from the new line-up, replaced by a lawmaker, Mevlut Cavusoglu.

The new cabinet includes four deputy prime ministers, and one woman.
